But even if it was an intentional killing, he was 12 years old when he did it. It's barbaric to lock someone up for life because of something, even very bad, done when he was 12. --jks

CB: Malheureusement, there is a trend in the U.S. to try children as adults, i.e. claim that they are competent to have,e.g. the requisite mens rea for murder, For example, Michigan has such a statute now.
In an infamous case last year, a boy who shot someone dead when the shooter was eleven ( just shooting, not at that person) was tried as an adult under the statute and convicted. The judge had the sense not to sentence him in the way he could have under the statute.
