Fierce fighting on the Macedonian border with Kosovo has escalated.
Clashes between ethnic-Albanian separatists and the Macedonian security forces have spread westwards into Macedonia's main ethnic-Albanian areas.
Gunfire could be clearly heard near the western town of Tetovo.
