At the risk of being thought a fellow-traveler of California school neoliberalism...am I the only person here who likes Barry Eichengreen's "Golden Fetters"? After years of having my students shake their heads in wonderment at Polanyi's animus against the gold standard, I found Eichengreen an exceptionally useful gloss on Polanyi's more than a little allusive argument. Now if only Barry had mentioned Karl, just once, in four hundred pages.
