Since the power of Capital depends on the preservation of scarcity, in any advanced state of capitalism as many resources as necessary must be put into producing scarcity. Hence, advances in technology are unlikely to reduce it past the point where production-consumption is maximized, except by accident. If the ability of Capital to produce scarcity were to be permanently overwhelmed by ungovernable productive power, is seems likely that an interesting state of social disorder would quickly ensue.
