News about the Borders Books union drive which has been going on since 1996:
Employees of the Marlton, NJ store voted against joining the Teamsters last Thursday. Employees of the Springfield, PA store are voting May 17th. The Teamsters are the third union to attempt to organize Borders stores. The IWW and the UFCW have both been involved in past efforts. Three stores were under contract with the UFCW at one point, but those contracts were not renewed. Last March Borders announced store-level layoffs, demotions and a corporate restructuring. It is also closing a distribution center and turning its online operations over to amazon.com.
