``Militias on the wane The number of self-described patriot organizations operating in the United States has plummeted in recent years.'' Charles B

``It may not be such a good thing. Bubbas who populated these groups have not disappeared from the face of the Earth - in all likelihood they went back to the Republican Party where they are far more dangerous than in the woods.'' Wojtek S

``Not to be a vulgar economic determinist or anything, but the unemployment rate also fell from an average of 7.5% in 1992 to 4.2% last year. As it creeps higher, `bubba' may take up arms again.'' Doug

Well these are not mutually exclusive results guys.

Out here in the west, the most promising bubbas get appointed or steered by local Republican party hacks to be rangers, county sheriff's deputies, prison guards and the like, and of course for those who can read there are always local magistrates, judgeships and county prosecutors.

So I think you can get the best of all worlds. Bubbas with guns, badges and gavels on the county payroll, singing, naw, naw-naw-naw, Let freedom ring!
