Some worms/viruses silently attach themselves to legitimate email, i.e. those may be actual emails intended for you and others but the sender unknowingly is infected.

ObEmailAttachmentRant: Never, ever, run attachments from people you do not know. If you get an attachment from someone you do know, but weren't expecting it, contact the person and ask them about it. And always, no matter what, be sure to use a virus scanning package with the latest data files.
