. . . From what we do know, Oden was lectured, manhandled (sic), and treated with no small measure of disrespect by some of the staff. This is bad enough. . . .

Do 'we' in fact know any of that? Are there any witnesses to substantiate her version of events?

The whole thing smells. The idea of her being singled out before checking in is not credible. If this had been going on, there would be many other episodes like this. The idea of her sassing the security people and provoking an over-reaction is plausible, but exactly who did what and did wrong would seem to be impossible to pin down without the testimony of neutral observers.

The real domestic repression issue in re: the "war against terrorism" now, such as it is, is the several hundred people in custody because of their ethnicity, and for lack of any proffered evidence. Not some white chick who raises a ruckus at an airport security checkpoint. Perhaps the unfolding stemmed from a difference in perception of the events of 9/11 on the part of her & the airport people. The latter saw it as an attack on themselves and do not take kindly to exceptions to that view. I don't blame them.
