I don't have a problem with anything that empowers any group which suffers from prejudice, even if it does only empower some members of that group within the same old capitalist mode of production.

It is both a strength and weakness of the proletariat, as an analytical tool, that it is "abstract", except for those few historical contexts (so far) where wage earners (etc) have realised their mutual exploitation/oppression.

At the same time, no kind of other social identity _is_ consistent in terms of it signifying exploitation/oppression. Ask anyone who has to deal with a proprietor/manager/landlord etc who happens to be female/black/gay etc...
