Senior Iranian officials said the Taliban in Kabul had approached the Northern Alliance offering to hand over the capital peacefully in exchange for a role in a future government. The offer would include surrendering some Arab Taliban fighters but the proposed deal would not involve Mr bin Laden, said the Iranian officials.
