Agreed. Mind you, when it comes to American pop cult, I'm fairly covered in red, white and blue. I remember making "Green Acres" references on WBAI, highlighting the subtle socialist message of "The Beverly Hillbillies" and the anarchist spirit of Bugs Bunny to the utter incomprehension of those lefties who couldn't tell Captain Kangaroo from Captain Kirk. I've found that a shared appreciation, even an ironic one, of pop cult can help smooth the way for a political discussion with those who don't view the world as I do. It lessens their resistance, because, after all, if this "commie" digs the Pythons, then he can't be all bad.
