I dunno, Carl... I am listening to the 'nostalgia' radio program and they just aired this radio playlet from 1939 or so where this little blind orphan is sitting in the orphanage full of self-pity and this unnamed male character, played by Walter Huston!!!!, gives him a pep talk about how he can see everything using his mind and heart ("Now think of a big pirate ship! Can you see it?" "Yes - YES! I see it!", and it changes the kid's whole outlook on life in like 4 minutes, and little Timmy is laughing out loud, and the sister comes over and Timmy explains that this man 'right here next to me' had told him all this wonderful stuff, and the sister says, "There's no man here, Timmy - just this STATUE OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN!!!" I mean seriously, did people's minds work so much differently 60 years ago? They didn't just puke at this stuff? I went and asked my wife that very question and she interrupted me with the complaint that she was on the telephone.
