You live in a country that pours a hundred billion dollars into the CIA, NSA, and countless other spook shops with almost zero democratic oversight. The capers these outfits pull off are usually directed at second parties, like me, rather than at US citizens. These guys start civil wars and topple governments on my front lawn, not yours, at least not yet. So you may be lulled into thinking that you can get by without mentioning them too often. I know as a practical fact of life that I can't.
If you're inclined to flip at the mere mention of these acronyms, I may look paranoid, but if you look at it dispassionately, there really is someone following me, or you, in this case.
