New Shin Bet law heads to Knesset
New legislation for reforms of the Shin Bet security service will be speeded up next week to get the law passed by the Knesset in the coming months.
The bill defines the objectives and role of the Shin Bet and tightens critical oversight of its operations by various mechanisms, including decentralized supervision, and establishing new Knesset and ministerial committees for Shin Bet affairs.
The law also proposes an external comptroller, and establishes a procedure for appointing the head of the Shin Bet. (...)
