I think American imperialism is only one of many factors that may be just as important. I don't think it's either/or . . It seems to me that it is both patriarchy, & imperialism & a million other things--like the Soviet Union & Pakistan (yeah, I know, the actions of the Soviet Union & Pakistan can also be traced back to the US.)
I think it's good that we've (feminists) been called on our shit, *if* it is true that we aren't talking about the conn. btw. US imperialism & fundamentalism & patriarchy. If we're going around saying "this is all about gender," yes, we need to be set straight. Likewise, I think those who say "this is all about oil" or "this is all about american imperialism" should also take a closer look.
