Is there a nonviolent response to September 11?

I don't believe that the American public is anyware near comfortable with international law arguments, or any other implication that UN have any authority over the US. My experience has been that you have a roughly equal chance of talking a typical American out of opposition to international authority over his country as you have in talking a typical Israeli Jew out of the idea of a Jewish state.

But I don't live in US, and do not have decades of experience talking with people in US streets. What have others experienced with regard to Americans and international law arguments?
