Thanks for this. As one would expect, while higher-end jobs are for the most part subject to relocation to other areas, there are obviously a sizeable number of low-income service workers who are out of luck and probably now competing for the same diminished pool of jobs.
"Several thousand people worked as building service workers, in food service, or at hotels in the area of the attack. For most of these workers, such as those at the Windows on the World restaurant, their employing establishments ceased operations and they are permanently displaced."
So it'll be interesting to see if the city or feds come up with some kind of plan to deal with this, given the huge $ figures being bandied about between Giuliani and the feds for recovery efforts. I'm tempted to add "fat chance," but who's to say what might be in the works in the strange circumstances we find ourselves in...
