There's a certain argument you hear from cops all the time that goes like
this: Community activists are hypocrites. They condemn us when we shoot
innocent people, then they denounce us when we pull out of their
neighborhoods altogether.
To which, most activists reply: It's not too much to ask that cops protect our neighborhoods without shooting unarmed people.
Some might say these activists subscribe to a "ladder of force" theory of criminal justice. Is there any other theory?
