Thank you for posting this Ian. I was so glad when I scanned back up and it
was in a mainstream paper too. But who started calling the Global
Justice/Debt Cancelation/Pro-Democracy movement an anti-globalization
campaign? I wonder if that was a self-naming or imposed by the badies? I
hate it. It's worse than anti-capitalist, which is terrible, if we want to
win the hearts and minds of the normals. But being against globalization is
so not left.
With foundations in the vast and growing antiglobalization campaign,
the evolving peace movement draws on long-standing, traditional
organizations and philosophies. Days after Sept. 11, Quaker groups
organized the first peace rallies. The War Resisters League, the
Fellowship of Reconciliation and other old-time pacifist groups are
back on the radarscope. Again and again, a well-worn chestnut fro
Mahatma Ghandi--"an eye for an eye leaves the whole world
blind"--shows up on handouts and bulletin boards.
