Brazil gets 40% cut on AIDS drugs

The most serious deficiency in pharmaceutical research is the discovery
of useful properties in chemicals (whether produced or "natural") that
are in the public domain -- hence discovering their medical use will not
lead to any profitable enterprise. And this is the realm in which the
greatest medical advances will probably come -- e.g., the discovery that
aspirin can reduce the likelihood of stroke. No gain for anyone.
