Hi-jack fall-out

I was a student activist in 1979 & 1980 when the Iranian revolution happened. At the time, I supported the revolution there, and helped organize protests against allowing the Shah of Iran into the USA.

It was ugly. Like the Iranian students in many instances, I was beaten...I was even thrown into jail for allegedly "inciting to riot, resisting arrest (true) and attacking a police officer ( obviously attacking his baton with my head).

Of course, I feel very sorry for all those who lost their lives today and their families.

IF (and I wish to emphasize that "IF) this turns out to be a case of, say, an attack by, say, a palestinian group, I hate to think of the civil liberties that will be suspended and the poundings of the chest declaring how we need more military, more police state, etc.

How do we respond to this? My god, just at the moment when the Left in this country was gaining a little momentum.
