Actually, the "man on the street" interviews that I've seen seem to indicate a greater, not a lesser, preference for isolationism. People say that they should seek vengeance, that they should take stock of their international obligations.
Progressives, or at least those progressives who subscribe to LBO-Talk, see it as a reason for the US to be more involved in the international scheme, to be more willing to espouse a policy of multilateralism. But we wanted those things anyway; we'd see any debacle or disaster originating from overseas as promoting this.
