This is Max's most regrettable principle, which seems to dominate his
thought. He keeps his nose so close to the book of reality that he has
excellent perception of the modulations of gray in the typefaces but
cannot see the words and sentences which are there. Right Now, The
Present, is always already the dead past even as we speak of it. To
focus on "right now" is to be guilty of the most irrelevant
antiquarianism.
