Thus, when he starts off the very beginning of his statement with a "This was an atrocity, but..." formulation, without even an expression of sympathy separating the qualifications to come, it is all too easy to understand that what comes behind the but, the qualification, is the central statement and message.
--Maybe because it's a no brainer that he opposes such horrifying right wing extremist ideologues who think that the taking of civilian life is the way to bring about liberation. Then again give Chomsky some credit, he didn't support Reagan's support of Islamic extremists in Afghanistan when it mattered...Were more people like Chomsky in this country, who knows maybe you would have had a more normal week than the one you've been forced to endure.
