New Republic vs. The Nation

Some of this makes some good points although others may indicate some gaping holes in the argument. This last paragraph though is a real howler isn't it? Who was it sent his associates to fight in Bosnia and Kosovo but bin Laden? And what was the solution in Bosnia but to carve the country up mostly on ethnic lines. And what was the final result in Kosovo, a reverse ethnic cleansing in which the vast majority of Serbs and Roma in Kosovo have been forced to leave because of ethnic hatred and reprisals. Sounds like the US and its allies defended a Muslim's right not to live with a non-Muslim . Just coincidentally, Bosnia and Kosovo are now listed as "states" that have terrorist cells. Having thus given aid and succour to the terrorists, bomb yourselves damn it...

Cheers, Ken Hanly

TRB FROM WASHINGTON Fault Lines by Peter Beinart

.

If Fisk and The Nation really want to argue that America brought the World Trade Center attack on itself, they shouldn't delude themselves. They are not defending the Palestinians' right to a state or the Iraqis' right to medicine. They are defending a Muslim's right not to live with a non-Muslim. And in so doing they are renouncing this country's most sacred principles--principles that saved countless Muslim lives in Bosnia and Kosovo in the 1990s. When the left assembles at its candlelight vigils and peace marches in the coming weeks, let it proclaim this honestly. And other Americans will survey the scene, and scream.
