In other words, about 30% of the population, an incredibly large number, are potential recruits to an active left.

Do you see why I feel so optimistic?

And extrmely large numbers are clearly unwilling to support actively a prolonged conflict. They will be quite passive in the face of an aggressive anti-war movement. People who are unwilling to have their credit card monitored are going to be a very silent majority indeed. This means that a coherent anti-war movement organized around saying No loudly will create the kind of malaise that makes carrying on a war practically impossible.
