It may be ancient history, but the WV have a point. Many on the left were confused by the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. WV themselves held absurd illusions in the capacity of the Soviet Army to institute socialism. But on the other hand, the left ought to have spotted straight away that the 'Afghan resistance' was largely a proxy army of Reagan's. You didn't have to be pro-Soviet to see through the 'freedom fighter' nonsense. -- James Heartfield
