Oh yeah. I'm paranoid. Anybody wanna bet a dollar the new show about the CIA, The Agency, has a lot of plot lines tracking down violent offenders of the radical left and well meaning, but misguided tree-huggers and lovers of the Constitution who are dupped by such like. Speaking of paranoid, I fear for the internet. In several ways. Recommend article by Charles C Mann called Taming the Web, in Sept issue of MIT's Technology Review. Also good piece about dangerous co-operation of the Patent Office for Monsanto "Owning the Future" by Seth Shulman. Also, in the personal paranoia dept: Awhile back my cursor started to show the little hour-glass thingy, even though I wasn't doing anything on the magic box. Just comes and goes for no reason. I thought it started after I tried to use my CD burner and the software ended up knocking the box out till I took the Adaptec software off. (btw, any suggestions for real easy software for burning and creating CD's? Other than Easy CD Writer?) But I'm not sure. Also, recently my browser started saving ALL my input, I guess. When I go to type in something say at Maps or Google or my zip code on an online form, my browser offers me a choice of what I typed in the last times I made that kind of input. It gives me a little drop-down. This just started happening and I have not down-loaded a new version of the MS browser or anything like that. Does that sound weird?
The Italian woman I work with, Gianna, is now deathly afraid of germ-warfare. I read her a letter in WSJ about how difficult it is to spread Anthrax and she said what about small-pox! I almost laughed, box-cutters and blankets infected with small-pox. So much for high-tech genius. At least her daughter told her that she thought Georgie was nuts, so she no longer thinks I'm quite so nuts. She warned me not to talk about stuff. Charlie, the owner, loves Bush. Although I must credit him for being totally ignorant about Bush or anything else. She didn't have to warn me. But I could not help pointing out to Charlie (when he was stuck in a car with me when I got on the wrong bus) that the reason the air-port security guards make $5.75/hr, which he brought up, was because of conservatives. Always insisting that everything be de-regulated and privatized. And that govt only privatized jobs so that they wouldn't have to provide healthcare and other benifits. (Sore spot) And that private companies not only have to make a profit, but that profit has to grow every quarter, or the stock goes down. And that there were some things that were too important to leave to the profit motive. Then I told him about Bethlehem Steel hiring the Chryslar bail-out guy and how they were taking advantage of this tragedy to get a govt subsidy and I wouldn't be surprised if steel suddenly became a national defense issue. He was already annoyed with me for having mentioned the poso of going to DC for the IMF meeting. He's been in a nasty mood the last few days. Thank goodness I've been there years and the customers like me and I'm fast. I'd hate to loose a cushy job. We're the place the weathy go when they aren't spending a lot of money, so we won't starve in a bad downturn. But I couldn't help myself. Underneath the greed and stupidity, I think he has a decent heart. What I'd really like to tell him is that he'd have a lot better life if he'd give his employees benefits. To do this he'd have had to trade his St Simons home, in a neighborhood with people much wealthier and less hard-working than himself, for a modest but comfy summer home with the rabble. But I digress.

>From the 'The Washington Times' June 22, 2001
"The rebels would have their big brothers in America - the same heroes who led the NATO mission against their enemies, the Serbs - believe that the violence they are now perpetrating in Macedonia is merely about protecting minority rights. But the National Liberation Army (NLA), a splinter of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), also has another motive: It is fighting to keep control over the region's drug trafficking, which has grown into a large, lucrative enterprise since the Kosovo war. In addition to drug money, the NLA also has another prominent venture capitalist: Osama bin Laden. The Muslim terrorist leader, according to a document obtained by The Washington Times and written by the chief commander of the Macedonian Security Forces, puts out the front money for the rebel group through a representative in Macedonia: 'This person is representative of Osama Ben laden sic , who is the main financial supporter of the National Liberation Army, where up to date he has paid $6 million to $7 million for the needs of the National Liberation Army.'"
