Sony Ericsson to set up joint mobile phone venture
AFP
TOKYO: Japanese-Swedish telecom venture Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications will set up a subsidiary in Beijing in May to supply third-generation (3G) phones to China, a report said Monday.
The move will unify Chinese production bases owned separately by Sony Corp. and LM Ericsson in preparation for the introduction of 3G mobile services in China in 2003, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said.
Sony currently has a cell phone factory in Beijing, while Ericsson runs plants in Beijing and Nanjing.
Sony Ericsson is awaiting approval from the Chinese government to establish the subsidiary, the paper said.
