Well, there are differences between the way the US runs its clients and the way the USSR did. The US will let you havewhatever sort of govt you like as long as it isn't socialist, populaist, natioanlist, or democratic except in apperance. They don't require you to swear allegience to St. Madison. Also there differences in how clienr-like the clients are, course that was true with the USSR. But the Philippines and Indonesia are pretty much clients, will take orders. Look at the current antiterrorist deployments. S Korea used to be, less now with Kim. Singapore not and never was. Thailand, not for years. Malayasia, I know nothing about.
