Rumsfeld Resisting Calls From Military to Build Up Forces
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld said the cost of expanding the military is too high, despite complaints of personnel being stretched too thin.

"Nevertheless, Representative Ike Skelton of Missouri, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, said he planned to push legislation that would add several thousands troops by 2003"
"'They don't have enough resources to meet their missions,' Mr. Skelton said in an interview. "Young men and women are stretched pretty hard right now.'"
A Democrat, naturally.
