Please donate $50 to provide water for a family.
Friends of the Earth Middle East’s project “Good Water Neighbors” and ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid) are launching an appeal to replace damaged or destroyed water tanks in Palestinian cities and villages. In most Palestinian towns there is no constant supply of running water from the main water pipes. The water mains run intermittently -- often only once a week. For many villages there are no water pipes at all and water tankers have to fill the water tanks. Water tanks on rooftops are therefore essential to store water for household use.
The Israeli incursion into Palestinian autonomous areas has caused untold misery and destruction. Water, food and medicine are scarce. Infrastructure and property have been severely damaged. The carrying out of repairs to infrastructure and other humanitarian aid work is still extremely difficult. Thousands of water storage tanks located on roofs have been broken and are unusable. Families whose water tanks were shot lost their entire reserve of water and then spent many days conserving or even doing without water.
With summer weather conditions having arrived, household demand for water is on the rise, yet for many families there is now no means to store water. An effective donation to help those in desperate need will provide replacement water tanks. Since the water tanks will be bought from Palestinian factories in the West Bank, this will also provide desperately needed job opportunities.
The cost of a typical 1000-liter household water tank is US$50. West Bank areas to be supplied are Hebron; Qalqilia; Tulkarem; Jenin; Bethlehem; Nablus; Ramallah. The target is 500 water tanks to be supplied to each area.
