Sohrab Behdad is a professor of economics at Denison University. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of _International Journal of Middle East Studies_. He was a member of the Faculty of Economics of Tehran University until 1983, when he left the university to cultural revolutionaries who sought to "purify" it and "reform" economics to its Islamic form.

His publications include "From Populism to Economic Liberalism: The Iranian Predicament" (in _Iran's Economy: Dilemma of an Islamic State_), _Islam and Public Policy_ (co-edited with Farhad Nomani as an annual volume of _International Review of Comparative Public Policy_), "Islamic Utopia in Pre-Revolutionary Iran: Navvab-Safavi and the Fada'ian-e Eslam" (in _Middle Eastern Studies_ 33.1), _Iran after the Revolutions: Crisis of an Islamic State_ (co-edited with Saeed Rahnema), "A Disputed Utopia: Islamic Economics in Revolutionary Iran" (in _Comparative Studies in Society and History: An International Quarterly_ 36.4) and "Winner and Losers of the Iranian Revolution: A Study in Income Distribution" (in _International Journal of Middle East Studies_ 21.3).
