Moscow, 11 May: Pollsters say that 76 per cent of Russians think that organizations exist in their country that hold fascist views.
Twenty-nine per cent, mostly people with a higher education or big city residents, know of such organizations in their region, according to a report
published today by the Public Opinion Foundation.
The foundation said the problem was particularly relevant in northwest Russia, where 48 per cent of the population, according to the report, believe fascist organizations exist in their region.
People aged between 18 and 35 show a better knowledge of such groups than older people. While 79 per cent of Russians want a legal ban on associations
professing fascist views, 13 per cent are against it.
Three-quarters of Russians see no positive aspects in fascist ideology, while 16 per cent think there are good points about it. As for the latter view, twice as many women hold it as men, 22 per cent and 11 per cent respectively.
The Public Opinion Foundation questioned 1,500 people on 28 April.
