The term "middle class" is an infallible giveaway of moralistic or otherwise muddled political thinking.
The injunction to publish or perish (and publish in only respectable professional journals) makes it almost impossible for sociologists to survive professionally without inventing a whole slew of extra classes to provide manipulable statistics.
