The Charles Higham biography (_Errol Flynn: The Untold Story_) that made this argument seems now to be universally denounced as a fraud.
Fwiw, the 1938 film "The Adventures of Robin Hood" that Flynn starred in is usually regarded as a transparent allegory of freedom fighters overthrowing totalitarianism. Someone argued somewhere that every big Robin Hood movie transparently reflected its era. The 70s got Sean Connery's revisionist anti-Vietnam one, and the 90s got Kevin Costner's multicultural celebrationist one.
