Well, I've been unable to interest my sixth grader in Ibn Khaldun. 
But he did just read Kinross's _The Ottoman Centuries_. Right now 
he's reading Runciman's _History of the Crusades_ and is appalled by 
the brutal bloodthirstiness of the crusaders, especially Reynaud de 
Chatillon, Prince of Antioch and Lord of Kerak...
