Agreed. I remember when he first made overtures to the West and had rock star popularity in the US. I was fortunate enough to be standing at, as I recall, 51st and Broadway in New York City at rush hour when Gorbachev's highly conspicuous limo and security detail drew up. The guy stunned the crowd by suddenly getting out and waving. He got tremendous applause. It was a thrill to see him, and I felt privileged by the experience.
