You're right that what Joseph Bujes said was Socialism 101, but we can never have enough of that.
I like your anecdote, because it crystalizes how socialist thought mainly gets communicated, from one person to another, orally. The majority of people who became socialists never did so by following the mass media; they became socialists by learning from their own experiences, listening to socialists and other progressive persons around them, and (in a smaller number of cases) reading works, be they major or minor or even trivial, that somehow expressed clearly what they were already beginning to think. -- Yoshie
