I'd call myself a socialist, but I'd have to agree with the above. And, actually, I don't think that the concept of "another world" is "lame, vague, sanitized." The one thing that has been laughed/crushed out of existence in the last thirty years is any trace of idealism: free health care? a reasonable educational system? economic justice? democracy? ....dream on !!! People have been told over and over again that this is not "practical"...and to think in any terms that were not "practical" was to be stupid. The words of M Thatcher "There is no alternative!" have drowned out everything else. To raise the possibility of another world that we could achieve working together IS a radical notion/act these days. To suggest that human intelligence and goodwill are forces that are superior to the market is a good thing and goes against everything that blares out of the t.v.
