Carrol>Lerner & Golden were both columnists with left-leaning tendencies...

Max Lerner, was once more than left-leaning. Go back to issues of the marxist journal, Science & Society, founded in 1936, and you'll find book reviews by Lerner till mid-way through WWII. Bill Moyers had an interview with him a few yrs. before he died on PBS where he was asked why he moved away from, "democratic collectivism." Forget his reply but, most of the rest of the Moyers then moved to Lerner's enthusiasm for New Age stuff like Marilyn Ferguson's, "aquarian conspiracy."

Dwight Macdonald, had a typically acerbic p.o.v. on Lerner's prose. Slightly better than James Gould Cozzens. Whozat? Only Carrol remembers. Michael Pugliese, "Ideas Have Consequences."
