Jiang for enhanced media coverage in Tibet

BEIJING: Chinese President Jiang Zemin has said efforts should be speeded up for enhanced radio and television coverage in Tibet and Xinjiang to project the government's policies.
Increasing broadcasting coverage in northwest China, the Tibet autonomous region and Xinjiang Uygur region in particular, would also help promote economic development and maintain social stability, Jiang said.
The project launched in September 2000 for wider coverage, especially in the remote regions, is of great importance and efforts should be made to speed it up, he said.
In Tibet autonomous region, Beijing has accused its spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama and his supporters of instigating social tension.
In Xinjiang, China has launhced a crackdown on East Turkistan separatists.
