I feel so cheap

OK. How common is it to totally forego any foreplay when hunting for a job? I mean, I feel so cheap. :)

This guy reminds me of the kinds of guys you hear the lines from: "Hey baby, that's a really nice sweater. Would looking even better on my bedroom floor in the morning."

And, he wants a sales position, too. For pity's sake. I learned in high school, that you had to show some actual interest in the company you were applying to. You did some homework in order to show how you might be a good fit for the firm. Have these skills been suffocated by the stock market/VC bubble when all the money was, seemingly, free?

Yes, yes, I know: a good leftist wouldn't whine. doing your homework for a job app is just part of the system of capitalist oppression and exploitation. But I've been reading people complain about the market on all these tech lists. And then I get resumes like the above. Shotgunned out, without a care in the world who they're writing to.

And then, yesterday, I read a contractor complain that people who take jobs at much lower pay than they used to get are ruining it for everyone else!

Oh god, I had to sit on my hands to avoid ranting at everyone about how contractors are ones to talk. They went it alone, bold brave individuals taking advantage of a hot IT market and playing it for all its worth in order to get the best pay possible. Well, if you love the market, then live with the consequences because this is it baby: market discipline at your service only now the disciplinary paddle is aimed at your lone self, not the employer. Have we heard of unions? Buttttttt, no..... contractors would turn up their noses and sniff about how FT employment and unions and such create deadwood. THEY'RE contractors: independent, cutting edge, better than the rest, etc.etc.etc.

And this whole turn to the use of recruiters is pathetic, ain't it. For cheeeeee-rist's sake. it just kills me. A firm pays, what?, 1/3 more per hour (than were I a free agent principle) to a recruiter to find them a contractor. Well, that's nice. Why don't we create unions that could do some of the same things as recruiters do, only instead of using the money for profit, they could use the money for the other things unions provide. (on the Dorothy Sue Cobble et al model of unions, that is)

Butttttt no.... unions are evil.... Ok, enough of a rant for the day.
