On what census was Allen Ginsberg relying when he asked America, in the poem of the same name, when it would be worthy of its million Trotskyites?

None I guess. What need does a poet have of censuses? I think he was just being sad about his mother, who, I seem to recall, was a Trotskyite who degenerated slowly and sordidly. Tahir
