Are Racist Women the Weakest Link?

If not for some disturbing details, the amateur photos in
Kathleen M. Blee's hands could be leftovers from a family
scrapbook.
In one, a newlywed Michigan couple grins shyly for the camera.
The bride wears white, the groom wears a shiny Ku Klux Klan
robe and cap.
In another, a smiling woman offers a large birthday cake to a
member of a "white power" rock band, a Klan cross outlined in
frosting.
In others, large groups of men, women, and fair-haired
children pose at sunny social gatherings, most with right arms
outstretched, elbows stiff, palms flat.
"Look at that girl," says Ms. Blee, shaking her head. "Three
years old, learning to give the Nazi salute."...
