Here is one other aspect of the whole Enron controversy, which is that leaders of all three corporate parts of the scandal, Enron, the auditors Arthur Andersen, and the law firm Vinson & Elkins, were integral parts of the Bush campaign. They were not minor contributors but fundraisers on behalf of the campaign, designated "Pioneers" dedicated to raising at least $100,000 each for Bush.
There were five Pioneers from the mess (see http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol18/issue48/pols.bush.side2.html for a fuller list of all Bush Pioneers):
Kenneth Lay Houston CEO, Enron D. Stephen Goddard, Managing partner, Arthur Andersen LLP Joe Allen, Attorney, Vinson & Elkins Thomas Marinis Jr., Attorney, Vinson & Elkins Robert Whilden Jr., Attorney, Vinson & Elkins
Plus three $100,000 direct contributions to Bush's Inaugural fund each by: Enron Corp Jeffrey Skilling Enron Executive Kenneth & Linda Lay Enron CEO
Not a bad haul of money from this nexus of corporate crime.
