Does direct
democracy mean that, on the one hand, we would reduce
the hours of necessary labor, only to fill the
remaining hours up with "meetings"? I dont know, but
it is a question worth considering.

Anyone have any thoughts on this question?

   Oscar Wilde quip in, "The Soul of Man Under Socialism, " , "The only
problem with socialism is that it would take up too many evenings..."
   The last SF DSA meeting (in the afternoon, went on for three hours) one
of our older comrades, Betty, who went to the fSU, seven times from the
early 70's till mid-perestroika
elaborated the most naive picture of central planning under the fSU. Had
never heard of any left (or Hayekian)
critiques such as market socialism of the bureaucratic command economy. And,
things were so great before Gorby that, "no one paid taxes, " to underwrite
the very cheap rents for one's apt. It was so efficient, the state skimmed
off the excess from the industrial sector to subsidize food and housing and
education. And, "The kulaks were fascists..."
