The jews were the main symbolic target. (Yes they were also real targets.) But I do feel like screaming when Nazi terror is described, as it ALWAYS is, exclusively with reference to the jews. The nazis were equally interested in eliminating the following: ANY political opposition (starting with the socialists/communists), gays, gypsies, the mentally retarted, the physically impaired, etc.
"Jew" is not shorthand for all these groups.
