Good point, Ian. It's been many years since I have read Lenin's "Empiro-Criticism" but, as I recall, it was, understandably, newtonian. I recall it taking a very "common sense" attitude towards the so-called "objective" world. Honestly with quantum physics and the really weird stuff that is coming out of superstring theory, how can anyone say that they are in a privleged position to know what reality is? The claim to such a privleged postion, so it seems to me, could only come either from a god or from a dogmatist.

As for the beer and pretzels, I had something more herbal in mind!
