Monday July 1, 11:04 am Eastern Time Press Release SOURCE: Gold Fields Limited Rupert Pennant-Rea Joins Gold Fields Board JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Board of Directors of Gold Fields Limited (NYSE: GFI; JSE) is pleased to announce that Mr Rupert Pennant-Rea has been appointed as a non-executive Director of the Company.
Mr Pennant-Rea (54) has had a varied career as economist, journalist, central banker and businessman. He was born and brought up in Zimbabwe, and has degrees in economics from Trinity College, Dublin and the University of Manchester. He has been Editor of The Economist and Deputy Governor of the Bank of England.
He is now Chairman of The Stationery Office, which was formed in 1996 from the privatisation of Her Majesty's Stationery Office. He is also Chairman of Plantation & General Investments plc and Electra Kingsway VCT. He is a Non-Executive Director of British American Tobacco, Sherritt International and First Quantum Minerals.
Gold Fields is one of the world's largest precious metals companies and produces approximately 4.5 million ounces of gold annually from operations in South Africa, Ghana and Australia. The company has proven and probable reserves of approximately 84.5 million ounces. It also has a 51% stake in an advanced stage exploration project, the Arctic Platinum Partnership, in Finland.
